Gangs battle over drug sells to the Homeless

A spokesperson for HPD says they’re investigating the claims of gangs selling Kush to the homeless in downtown Houston.

If you ask Kenneth Jackson what’s the drug of choice for the homeless population in downtown Houston?

He says, “they just selling that Kush to people that’s all.”

Kush is a synthetic form of marijuana banned by the state in 2011.

Jackson, says, “just like weed but it’s better than weed. I smoked me one just a while ago, it’s alright though Kush alright though.”

What Jackson says falls right in line with a confidential email Fox 26 news has obtained.

It’s from the Downtown Development District asking HPD to investigate the sale of Kush to the homeless by gang members. The document indicates there could be a turf war between the Bloods and Crips in downtown Houston.

Bobby Briscoes has been around the homeless in downtown Houston for years. His mother workers near an area populated by the homeless. So we asked Briscoe how are the homeless able to afford drugs.

He says, “they get money from here and there, they beg for money. It wouldn’t be impossible for them to buy drugs from somebody who selling drugs.”

And the cost of Kush for the homeless in the downtown area? Jackson says, “dollar…one dollar…that’s all.”
