Local authorities who sampled local water quality found arsenic concentrations above hazardous waste limit
The California company that produces Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring bottled water pleaded guilty to illegally dumping water that contained arsenic. Parent company CG Roxane LLC and two contracted firms were previously charged in 2018 with failing to disclose information relating to the presence of arsenic in wastewater that was being transported from the bottling plant in Olancha, California.
A court case last week led to the firm agreeing to a $5 million fine for the transportation and storing of hazardous waste, federal prosecutors said.
According to authorities, the waste was created by the filtration of arsenic from Sierra Nevada spring water at CG Roxane LLC’S facility in Owens Valley.

Scientists analysed data on plastic from 79 sampling sites along 57 rivers. Their results showed that 10 rivers account for the majority of plastic. Eight of these are in Asia, including the Yangtze and Indus rivers. Targeting these rivers could halve the amount of plastic waste, experts predict.
Up to 95 per cent of plastic polluting the world’s oceans pours in from just ten rivers, according to new research.
The top 10 rivers – eight of which are in Asia – accounted for so much plastic because of the mismanagement of waste.
About five trillion pounds is floating in the sea, and targeting the major sources – such as the Yangtze and the Ganges – could almost halve it, scientists claim.
Massive amounts of plastic bits that imperil aquatic life are washing into the oceans and even the most pristine waters.
But how it all gets there from inland cities has not been fully understood.
Now a study shows the top 10 rivers – eight of which are in Asia – accounted for 88 to 95 per cent of the total global load because of the mismanagement of waste.

More than 6,000 schools in India close after air quality reaches levels 10 times worse than reigning pollution champion Beijing.
Citing toxic smog that one official said has turned India’s capital city into a “gas chamber,” United Airlines has cancelled flights to New Delhi until the air gets better.
At least in United’s eyes, the Indian capital’s smog concerns are on par with environmental disasters such as hurricanes and volcanoes — a risk to be avoided. The company said it was letting passengers switch flights without charge or helping them find seats on other carriers.
It was unclear if other airlines would follow suit. Virgin Atlantic, KLM and Etihad Airways all compete for business to New Delhi, according to CNN Money.
An advisory on United’s website said travel to New Delhi was suspended through at least Tuesday.
“United has temporarily suspended our Newark-Delhi flights due to poor air quality concerns in Delhi and currently has waiver policies in place for customers who are travelling to, from or through Delhi,” the company said in an email.
“We are monitoring advisories as the region remains under a public health emergency, and are co-ordinating with respective government agencies.”
