Sharpton Launches Shakedown Against Barneys

“Barneys New York believes that no customer should have the unacceptable experience described in recent media reports.”

This weekend, Al Sharpton began a campaign against retailer Barneys after two black people accused the store of racially profiling them for buying expensive merchandise. Tryon Christian sued Barneys after he said he was accused of fraud for buying a $349 Ferragamo belt last April; Kayla Phillips said she would sue after detectives frisked her after she bought at $2,500 Celine handbag last February.

Sharpton promptly sicced his National Action Network on Barneys for his usual shakedown routine, and the CEO of Barneys just as promptly called Sharpton to cave. “Barneys New York believes that no customer should have the unacceptable experience described in recent media reports, and we offer our sincere regret and deepest apologies,” Mark Lee said in a statement after giving a personal phone call to Sharpton.

No doubt Sharpton will use his MSNBC show this week as a club with which to beat Barneys. Sign our petition to stop Sharpton.
