Illegal migrants in Holland to be fined and incarcerated

Illegal migrants in the Netherlands will now be both fined and incarcerated, in keeping with a new government decision.

Foreign nationals who have lived in the Netherlands for one year without a resident permit will be fined 500 euros.

The more the migrants stay in the Netherlands illegally, the heavier the fine they will have to pay.

The maximum fine will make up almost 4,000 euros. But if the transgressor is unable or unwilling to pay, they will find themselves behind bars.

Prospects are very similar for those who have been repeatedly fined for illegal residence.

They will, besides, be banned from entering the Netherlands for five years.
