Ted Poe says political correctness is behind federal suit to overturn South Carolina immigration law

“The federal government is more concerned about not hurting the feelings of other countries like Mexico than it is protecting our country,” Poe said.

The Justice Department’s decision to sue South Carolina over an Arizona-style immigration law that would force local police to enforce immigration laws earned harsh words from Rep. Ted Poe today.

Speaking on the House floor, Poe, R-Humble, blasted the Obama administration for both what he said was its own failure to enforce the law and for punishing states that do enforce them.

“The federal government won’t or can’t enforce immigration laws,” Poe said, ”so South Carolina has been forced to take matters into their own hands to protect their citizens. We’ve heard this tale before, about the federal government suing states like Arizona and Alabama.”
