Border Patrol seizes drugs worth $317k, arrests gang member

According to the border patrol, the women, vehicle and drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

During the weekend, agents from the El Centro Sector Border Patrol seized heroin and methamphetamine with a combined street value of more than $317,000 and caught a gang member trying to enter the U.S., according to Border Patrol officials.

Around 4:15 p.m. Friday, agents searched a Greyhound Bus passing through a checkpoint on Highway 86. A canine team found seven bundles of heroin under a seat cushion, where “a man who appeared nervous” had been sitting, according to the border patrol. The heroin — 1.74 pounds, valued at $20,880 — and the 26-year-old U.S. citizen are being investigated by the Imperial County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force.

Later on Friday, agents found a man who had crossed the border about 29 miles west of the Calexico West Port of Entry, according to the border patrol. They identified him as a 47-year-old Mexican citizen belonging to the Sureno gang. He was taken to the Imperial County Jail pending prosecution for entering the U.S. illegally.

Lastly, on Saturday night, agents found 27 bundles of methamphetamine inside the rear rocker panels of a Chevrolet Malibu at a Highway 86 checkpoint.
