Wake up, GOP, you have the winning hand!

“We are done with the John McCains, Mitt Romneys, Jeb Bushes, John Boehners and Mitch McConnells. We are over trying to look beyond our own backyard for something that works because we have had what works all along.”

Remember the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz”? Of course you do; it’s a classic known round the world. Do you remember at the end of the film in one of the more poignant moments when Dorothy doesn’t make it into the balloon to get back home? She feels that all she has gone through and done was for naught because her dream of getting back home had been dashed. Not so, says Glinda the Good Witch: “You’ve always had the power to go back home … but if I told you, you wouldn’t have believed me, you had to learn it for yourself.” At that point Dorothy realizes that she had what she was looking for all along, and declares, “If I ever go looking for my heart’s desire, I won’t look any further than my own backyard, because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it in the first place.”

Republican elites, listen up! Take some advice from young Dorothy and realize that for decades you have been buying into the Democratic propaganda that you need to change your values and the ideals that you stand for in order to win elections. You have been conned into believing that if you bend and twist into something you’re not, you will bring more people into the voting booth. Your quest to lure new and different voters by softening your beliefs has caused you to ignore and cast aside your own voter base. You have taken your loyal solid support and dismissed it. This is the reason the top three candidates for president on the Republican side are outsiders and not politicians.
