Victorville man faces 366 years for child sexual assault

Jury finds Sanchez guilty of 29 counts; victim was his stepdaughter.

A 32-year-old Victorville man faces 366 years to life in prison after a jury convicted him Monday of 29 counts of child sexual assault on his stepdaughter.

Luis Gilbert Sanchez was found guilty of charges including sexual penetration, lewd or lascivious acts with a child, sex/sodomy with a child under 10 years old and possession or control of child pornography, court records show.

Sanchez’s conviction came during the fifth day of trial and after about two hours of jury deliberations, according to court records.

Sanchez was arrested in March 2009. According to a Daily Press report on his arrest, the victim’s mother came home from work in February 2009 and found her daughter and Sanchez acting strangely, authorities said.

After pulling the child aside, the mother learned Sanchez had been sexually abusing the girl for three years, authorities said.

San Bernardino County Deputy District Attorney Kathy DiDonato, the case’s prosecutor, said the sexual abuse started when the victim was six years old and lasted until she was eight.
