Right-wing YouTuber Paul Joseph Watson says video site is ‘censoring’ him and slams its reporting system as ‘broken’

A controversial British right-wing YouTube commentator has claimed the video site is censoring his videos – as well as those produced by people with an opposing point of view.

Paul Joseph Watson is editor-at-large of Infowars, an American alternative news site, and achieved global fame by producing YouTube videos from his flat in London.

But he told Metro.co.uk that his films are being ‘censored’ by the ‘Silicon Valley thought police’.

His latest video dealt with Donald Trump’s retweeting of posts by Britain First and appears to have been censored under a scheme that YouTube staffers refer to as ‘tougher treatment’, which is designed to reduce the audience of content deemed offensive, but not illegal, by putting them in a ‘limited state’.

This system effectively reduces the audience for videos by making it impossible to embed them on other sites, removing them from recommended video lists, shutting down comments and showing viewers a warning that ‘content is inappropriate or offensive’ before asking them to click a button if they want to watch it.
