Jeff Roorda blasts ‘malicious prosecution’ of ‘6 good, honest police officers’

Freddie Gray was a criminal committing a crime in a high-crime area.

The “Baltimore Six” were police officers policing a housing project where the residents – and the Baltimore district attorney – demanded more police protection.

Their actions were lawful. The outcome was awful. But we have to stop confusing the two in this country.

I was a cop for 17 years, and I’ve been representing police officers for another five. I know – firsthand – you can do everything right and still, things can turn out very wrong.

That’s what happened in Baltimore. The six officers were doing what they were supposed to be doing. They were trying to bring peace to a neighborhood plagued by drug dealing and violence. They observed Gray engaging in behavior their experience told them was consistent with open-air drug peddling. They acted. He fled. They apprehended him. He was armed. They arrested him.

See what I mean? Exactly what we as a society should expect of our police officers.
