Lynyrd Skynyrd to Headline Inaugural ‘Heritage Not Hate’ Music Festival This Fall

Rossington is disappointed in the knee-jerk reaction the country has taken towards the rebel flag, “My fallen Skynyrd brothers would be turning in their graves if they could see what’s going on,” the guitarist said, “if Billy and Steve were with us today, they would be first in line to defend our heritage, hell, Ronnie would most likely rough up some of these brain-dead politicians and activists.”

If southern rock had a Mount Rushmore, the four bands forever carved in granite would most certainly be: The Allman Brothers Band, The Charlie Daniels Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, and front and center in the George Washington position, the quintessential southern rock group, Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Gary Rossington, 63, guitarist and sole surviving original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, told the Gainsville Sun Times Wednesday the band would be headlining the inaugural ‘Heritage Not Hate’ music festival to be held Oct 3-4 at the Lynchburg County Fairgrounds in Lynchburg, VA.

“When approached to be a part of this we instantly said yes, without even looking at our current tour itinerary,” Rossington said, “with everything that’s happening in the country right now, we think it’s important to take a stand and defend not only our personal heritage, but the band’s as well.”
