New Selangor CPO trains sights on Latino gangs

“I cannot let this go on. Busting the Latinos will be my top priority. Action must be taken as soon as possible,” Newly-appointed Selangor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said, adding that the Latinos were a slippery bunch.

Selangor’s new top crime buster has vowed to wipe out Latin American gangs that are believed to be involved in multiple crimes in the state.

The Latinos, comprising mostly Colombians, Costa Ricans and Peruvians, are linked to a spate of house break-ins, petty thefts and the ripping off of moneychangers, especially in Shah Alam, Seri Kembangan and Ampang.

Newly-appointed Selangor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said he had already formed a task force to hunt down the Latinos.

“We have arrested 12 Latinos this year but we expect to make more arrests soon. Investigations showed there are more Latinos out there involved in crime,” he said yesterday.

He noted that last year, Selangor police detained 28 Latinos involved mostly in house break-ins.

SDC Mohd Shukri said the state faced the same problem some 10 years ago when he was the OCPD of Sepang and Shah Alam.
