Canada – Gangsters ‘terrorized’ public: prosecutor

“As they sit on the BlackBerrys, driving from location to location ‘scouting’ for their Bacon targets, essentially what they are doing is participating in human safaris, for want of a better expression. And that is pretty barbaric.” Crown counsel Ralph Keefer said.

The UN gang members or associates who conspired to murder the Bacon brothers showed a shocking indifference to human life and “terrorized” the public in the process, a prosecutor argued Tuesday.

On Monday, five gang members or associates entered guilty pleas to the conspiracy in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver. On Tuesday, Crown counsel Ralph Keefer called for jail sentences for the accused ranging from 11 years to 14 years.

He told B.C. Supreme Court Madam Justice Janice Dillon at a sentencing hearing that one doesn’t often see such convincing evidence of what goes on in the minds of people caught up in such a conspiracy.

“Listening to the intercepts in this case … the first aspect that shocks, it is submitted, is the blind indifference to human life,” Keefer said.
