The Mexican army said in June that it had seized 221 fully automatic machine guns, 56 grenade launchers and a dozen rocket launchers from drug cartels since late 2018.
Mexico wants an urgent investigation into how U.S. military-grade weapons are increasingly being found in the hands of Mexican drug cartels, Mexico’s top diplomat said Monday.
Mexico’s army is finding belt-fed machine guns, rocket launchers and grenades that are not sold for civilian use in the United States.
“The (Mexican) Defense Department has warned the United States about weapons entering Mexico that are for the exclusive use of the U.S. army,” Foreign Relations Secretary Alicia Bárcena said. “It is very urgent that an investigation into this be carried out.”

The origin of these hidden operations traces back to a familiar evil south of the border.
Drug cartels are trafficking migrants to northern California and then forcing them to work on illegal marijuana farms. And these black market farms are producing cannabis that’s tainted with toxins, and also threatening California’s water supply. These are just a few of the far-reaching repercussions of the crisis at our southern border.
The impact of migrants pouring across the U.S. southern border is reaching here in Humboldt County, helping fuel a rise in illicit cannabis operations staffed by undocumented workers. Instead of escaping poverty and oppression, many migrants often find a rude awakening here in America.
Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal tells CBN News, “So modern-day slavery is happening here. Labor trafficking is a major deal here when it comes to marijuana.”

Weng originated the mortgages for more than two dozen properties on behalf of Chinese buyers from New York and Massachusetts, including a property in Fairfield that is an obvious marijuana growing operation.
Asian transnational criminal organizations operate more than 270 illegal marijuana cultivation sites in Maine, according to a leaked U.S. Department of Homeland Security memo.
An investigation by the Maine Wire has identified more than 100 of those sites, as previously reported here.
Of those properties — almost all purchased within the last three years by single Chinese adults from New York or Massachusetts — 69 of the property transactions involved mortgages originated by Quontic Bank, according to a review of real estate records.
Quontic Bank, based in Astoria, N.Y., describes itself as an “adaptive digital bank.”
It was created after real estate investor Steve Schnall purchased a distressed bank in 2009 and rebranded it two years later as Quontic.
