He explained that transnational criminal organizations extend their criminal reach across multiple countries, unlike traditional localized gangs. Berrellez also described how different Mexican drugs and human trafficking cartels control various distinct sections along the US-Mexico border. In addition to providing an update on where cartels and international crime rings stand today, Berrellez also opened up further on the topics he addressed in his last sit-down. Hector shares chilling accounts of cartels torturing, decapitating, and murdering their enemies or their families, to intimidate and assert dominance. He also suggests that Mexican holiday resorts, perceived as safe spots by tourists, are allegedly owned by the cartels, indicating a symbiotic relationship between the tourism sector and organized crime. In Hector’s view, the ongoing problem is deeply intertwined with governmental corruption, and the only way to tackle it would be through addressing corruption first. However, he admits he doesn’t see it happening soon, painting a rather grim picture of the situation’s potential resolution.

August 19, 2022: Sheriff Grady Judd, along with representatives from Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Border Patrol, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, State Attorney Brian Haas, the Winter Haven Police Department, and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, gave details about the single largest seizure of drugs & arrests made during a wiretap investigation in Polk County. The investigation resulted in the arrests of 85 suspects, and three warrants being issued. Over $12.8 Million worth of drugs was seized, as well as 48 firearms. The suspects have been charged with a total of 355 felonies and 93 misdemeanors. Most of them have prior felonies.

Over the past few years the Netherlands and Belgium have become major hubs for drug trafficking in Europe. Almost 80% of the cocaine in Europe has passed through either Rotterdam or Antwerp. This has led to a new phenomenon: the “Mocro Mafia,” Dutch people of Moroccan origin who are engaged in the criminal underworld.
