Conor Woodman discovers the paradox that is Mexico City. From the moment he takes a taxi from the airport he is on a mission to find out about the kidnapping scam of the city’s taxis. He goes to the beautiful pyramids of Teotihuacan where he is offered 2,000-year-old artifacts. As he is out looking for pickpockets he meets Tirantes, who tells him of an area in the city called Tepito where there is a shrine to death and where he might meet kidnappers. Soon Conor descends into a world of petty crime, and criminals and taxi drivers who have killed, kidnapped and extorted their way through Mexico City’s beautiful avenues.
