Federal gov pays university $750k to create tool that warns journalists against publishing ‘polarizing’ content

The NSF project titled “A System for Mapping the (Local) Journalism Life Cycle to Rebuild the Nation’s News Trust” will warn journalists when content may be “triggering” of unfavorable discourse.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) provided a $750,000 grant to Temple University researchers for developing a product that tracks local journalism cycles, which is part of their new “Trust & Authenticity in Communication Systems” initiative.

The “America’s Fourth Estate at Risk: A System for Mapping the (Local) Journalism Life Cycle to Rebuild the Nation’s News Trust” project aims to create a data-based tool that informs journalists when publishing content might result in “negative unintended outcomes” like “the triggering of uncivil, polarizing discourse, audience misinterpretation, the production of misinformation, and the perpetuation of false narratives.”

The researchers hope to help journalists measure the long-term communication impact of stories, extending beyond existing metrics such as initial reactions, likes, and shares.

New DNA Testing on 2,000-Year-Old Elongated Paracas Skulls Changes Known History

If these results are confirmed through further tests, it means that peoples from Europe and the Middle East migrated to the Americas long before it is conventionally believed.

The elongated skulls of Paracas in Peru caused a stir in 2014 when a geneticist that carried out preliminary DNA testing reported that they have mitochondrial DNA “with mutations unknown in any human, primate, or animal known so far”. Now a second round of DNA testing has been completed and the results are just as controversial – the skulls tested, which date back as far as 2,000 years, were shown to have European and Middle Eastern Origin. These surprising results change the known history about how the Americas were populated.

Paracas is a desert peninsula located within Pisco Province on the south coast of Peru.  It is here where Peruvian archaeologist, Julio Tello, made an amazing discovery in 1928 – a massive and elaborate graveyard containing tombs filled with the remains of individuals with the largest elongated skulls found anywhere in the world. These have come to be known as the ‘ Paracas skulls ’. In total, Tello found more than 300 of these elongated skulls, some of which date back around 3,000 years.

White male marketing VP at North Carolina hospital wins $10million ‘reverse discrimination’ payout after he was replaced by two women – one of whom is black – as part of diversity and inclusion program

David Duvall was fired by Novant Health in South Carolina in 2018, five days before his fifth work anniversary. At the time, he was the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications. He says he was not given a reason for the firing, and was even told by his supervisor that he had done nothing wrong. Duvall’s role was split in two and given to two women; Kate Everett and Vicky Free.

A white male marketing vice president from a North Carolina has been awarded a $10million ‘reverse discrimination’ payout from the hospital which fired him and replaced him with two women, one of whom is black.

David Duvall sued Novant Health in North Carolina, where he’d worked for five years as the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, and was lauded by colleagues and supervisors, in 2018.

He says he was inexplicably terminated just days before reaching his five year work anniversary, a milestone that would have awarded him a higher severance payout than what he was given.

He was replaced by two women – Kate Everett, a white woman who had worked with him and was promoted to take the role of Chief PR and Communications Officer and Vicky Free, a black woman who was given the role of Chief Marketing Officer.

Duvall, in his complaint, said that while both women were qualified for the job, they were no more qualified than he was.

Jews built Hollywood. So why is their history erased from the Academy’s new museum?

If these long-dead Jewish moguls could speak, I imagine they’d say, What are we, chopped liver?

After over a decade of delay caused by money problems, competing narrative visions and the COVID-19 pandemic, the $484 million Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles has finally opened to the public. The Academy heralds its new museum as the most important institution devoted to filmmaking in the world, and one visit bears this out: it is a must see for any cinema lover.

The capacious edifice is tricked out with meaningful exhibits, the latest digital and sound technology and two well-appointed theaters—the 1,000-seat, spherical David Geffen Theater is a sight to behold.

I hoped the museum would also pay homage to the motion picture pioneers who birthed the industry in the early 1900s and reflect the history of families like mine.

EU climate deal would ‘kill the middle class’, PM Orbán says

European democracy depends on the existence of the middle class

European Commission Vice-President, Frans Timmermans’ proposal for a new climate package called Fit for 55 is killing the European middle class, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Thursday upon his arrival at the Union’s two-day summit of EU leaders in Brussels.

The Hungarian prime minister believes that the work of the Commission and Frans Timmermans would raise energy prices, the signs of which are already visible, and the plans will lead to further price increases. “He is destroying the middle class, even though all of European democracy hinges on the existence of the middle class,” he warned.

“European democracy is being jeopardized by those who are raising the price of electricity and gas to the sky. Therefore, these plans need to be withdrawn and rethought,” he said.
