Racial brawl at Gold Coast school

Students said there had been tension between New Zealand and white students for months, blaming racial tensions for the brawl.

Police and teachers patrol Upper Coomera College after yesterday’s brawl.

Racial tensions exploded at Upper Coomera State College yesterday with up to a dozen students involved in a violent brawl in the primary school carpark.

Parents dropping their children at school were caught in the melee and a mother and two children cowered in their car as the brawling teenagers surrounded their vehicle.

Teachers and parents tried to break up the fight, only to be punched and pushed to the ground. At least one teacher was taken for x-rays but the injuries were said to be minor.

Even the school principal was punched in the face.

Cars were damaged and police were called to bring the situation under control.
