On-Air Debate Threatens to Boil Over as Rudy Giuliani Blasts Black-on-Black Crime and Michael Eric Dyson Gets Testy (Video)

“The white officers wouldn’t be there if you weren’t killing each other,” Giuliani told Dyson.

As America awaits a grand jury decision on whether to indict a white police officer who shot an unarmed black man, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was asked on Meet the Press Sunday how police forces can become more reflective of their communities’ racial makeup.

But Giuliani instead dove hard into the problem of black-on-black crime.

“The fact is I find it very disappointing that you’re not discussing the fact that 93 percent of blacks in America are killed by other blacks,” he told the panel. “I would like to see the attention paid to that, that you are paying to this. And the solutions to that…”

The former mayor’s stance didn’t sit well with left-leaning Michael Eric Dyson, a frequent presence on the Sunday news show circuit, who called it a “false equivalency.” Dyson added that most blacks who kill other blacks go to jail, and they aren’t acting as agents of the state.

Giuliani wasn’t buying it. “It is the reason for the heavy police presence in the black community,” he told Dyson, later asking,“What about the poor black child that is killed by another black child? Why aren’t you protesting that?”
