Latino Gang Member Gets 25 Years in Prison For Scaring Black Family Completely Out of The Neighborhood

The Latino gang member was convicted of three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of making terrorist threats, with enhancements for hate crimes, gang involvement and firearms possession, according to City News Service.

Ivan Alquicira is just 19 years old, but he’s going to be spending the next few birthdays behind bars after being sentenced to serve 25 years and four months in state prison for threatening a black family in Glassell Park with a shotgun while shouting racial epithets.

The Latino gang member was convicted of three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of making terrorist threats, with enhancements for hate crimes, gang involvement and firearms possession, according to City News Service.

The young man was ordered by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephen Marcus to serve consecutive terms on each of the assault counts, however Marcus stayed the sentence on the other two counts, ruling that Alquicira had the same criminal objective in making those threats as he did in assaulting his victims.

On the evening of March 26, 2012, Alquicira shouted derogatory comments and other racially-motivated insults and slurs at a man, woman, and child, as he stood on his apartment balcony. Additionally, Alquicira pointed a shotgun at his victims. The family had been at the boy’s school, but ended up fleeing from the street out of fear due to Alquicira’s threats.

When officers with the Los Angeles Police Department arrived, Alquicira refused to come out of his apartment, and held authorities at bay for nearly two hours until he surrendered. Officers found a shotgun and other weapons inside the unit.
