Police: Illegal immigrant sold fake W-2 forms to others to collect tax refunds

However, by filing false tax returns using the purchased W-2 form, immigrants were receiving tax refunds that were being cashed with a fictitious ID card.

An illegal immigrant was arrested for selling false W-2 forms to other illegal immigrants in a tax scam that also helped the buyers avoid deportation, according to the Kenner Police Department.

On Friday, police responded to a disturbance in the 3000 block of Loyola Drive and discovered Marvin Baca in an argument concerning false W-2 documents he had sold to another illegal immigrant for $1,500.

Baca, who lived in Laplace, was arrested and admitted to selling the fake forms to other Hispanics who were in the country illegally, police said.

Investigators learned that Baca was storing $20,000 in cash in his car and confiscated the money as evidence.

He was charged with one count of identity theft and 2 counts of forgery in relation to a W-2 form that used the Social Security number of a Virginian.
