(Conservative) Politics Win The Box Office?

At the polls it’s still an open question in a country divided along red state/blue state lines whether American voters will reelect President Obama or choose his Republican challenger. At the box office, however, conservative values trump liberal ones in a landslide, according to a new report.

Movieguide, a group affiliated with the Christian Film & Television Commission ministry, put together a 76-page report finding that audiences flock to movies that promote patriotism and family values and aren’t sacrilegious to Christianity, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rating movies on two dozen criteria — including violence, homosexuality, political correctness and feminism — the report found that the 91 movies released last year that scored highest in “conservative” values earned an average of $59 million at the box office. The 105 movies that scored more toward “liberal/leftist” values in the report averaged just $11 million.

“Most moviegoers want good to conquer evil, truth to triumph over falsehood, justice to prevail over injustice and true beauty to overcome ugliness,” Movieguide editor Ted Baehr wrote in the report, a copy of which was obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
