Texas Border Police Chief Resigns Amid Political Scandal

The police chief, in a border city filled with political drama and vendettas, resigned just one day after angry voters moved to kick out three of the incumbent city commissioners and he was forced to reinstate a cop that had been wrongfully prosecuted and cleared.

On Tuesday, voters in Weslaco, Texas kicked out three of its sitting city commissioners. The same city commission that is facing trial for violating the open meetings act for clearing out a city commission meeting and continuing with business without an audience. While the case against the commissioners continues, three new members are expected to take control of the city and appear to have pressured the police chief to resign.

The previous city commissioners had appointed Corporal Sergio Ramirez as police chief, bypassing more experienced candidates earlier this year. As Breitbart Texas had previously reported Ramirez’s appointment kicked off a series of vendettas and internal affairs investigations targeting police officers who were members of a rival police union.

The investigations led to the July arrest of Alvino Flores, a police officer with 14 years of experience who had been charged with official oppression and other charges. After months out on bond and without a job, Flores was cleared of all charges by an Hidalgo County Grand Jury for apparent lack of evidence.
