Feds indict 54 tied to Denver area gangs for alleged drug trafficking

Two sets of indictments involved 33 people connected to the Gonzalez-Cepeva/Quintero organization, which brought drugs to Colorado from Mexico, Walsh said. The organization also has ties to the white supremacist prison gang 211 Crew.

Fifty-four people who are accused of being members of street gangs that flooded the Denver area with hard-core drugs have been indicted after a two-year federal investigation.

Authorities announced the indictments on Friday afternoon after hundreds of officers had fanned out to round up the suspects.

Of the 54 indicted, 28 were arrested during the morning raids. Fourteen already were in custody, and 12 remain at large. Officers also seized 2 pounds of methamphetamine, $40,000 and two firearms during the roundup.

Over the course of two years, the investigation has led to the confiscation of meth, cocaine, crack, heroin, Ecstasy and marijuana.

U.S. Attorney John F. Walsh said the bust had made the streets safer.

“Gangs that traffic in drugs also traffic in violence,” Walsh said, “whether it’s intimidation and fear or actual force.”
