Chaos As Migrant Hordes Plead For Jobs And Benefits

Police had to be drafted in yesterday after a job training centre was swamped by unemployed migrants seeking work.

Officers arrived to keep order as hundreds of EU nationals descended on the Jobs Education & Training offices in Normanton, Derby.

Staff at the centre are struggling to cope with a rising tide of eastern Europeans looking for jobs or help with benefits claims.

Manager Mohammed Sharief said his volunteer staff were at “breaking point” as they toiled to cope with the chaos caused by the deluge of foreign job seekers.

The reception area was packed with migrants waiting for their turn in front of a terminal. Many more hung around outside in the street.

Mr Sharief explained: “Hardly any of them speak English and it’s difficult to keep people in line.”

Their attendance came on the same day that new figures revealed that unemployment for the 17 countries that use the euro has risen to a record high of 11.6 per cent.
