One of the organizers was Desert Hot Springs resident John-Paul Valdez, who works as a banker and chief economist for Univision television.
The Coachella Valley’s participation in ongoing nationwide protests against corporate greed and the perceived lack of governmental response to the failing economy took place on Saturday outside Rep. Mary Bono Mack’s Palm Desert office.
The dozens of participants – more than 40 – were as varied in their political ideals as they were in their reasons for participating.
“One hundred percent of the people that I know – friends and family — have been negatively affected by the meltdown in the financial world,” Cathy Sciaini of Palm Desert said.
Wielding signs that read “Where are the jobs Mary?” and “Endless War = Endless Debt,” participants took turns speaking their minds to the crowd.
The “Occupy Coachella Valley” rally lasted for about three hours in front of the Palm Springs Republican’s office, 36-953 Cook St.
