I love Apple products. But politically speaking, they’re playing the game–and getting the abuse they paid for.

In 2012, according to OpenSecrets.org, Apple employees gave nearly 73% of its contributions–to all federal candidates, not just for president–to Barack Obama. And that was the GOP’s best year with Apple donors.

In the past 22 years, Apple employees have given overwhelmingly to Democrats. Republicans barely figure.

It may come as a shock to some Apple employees that Democrats want to damage their company. Some Apple employees, however, might agree with their party–adopting the cognitive dissonance that characterizes so much of the left intelligentsia, which is faintly ashamed of its success but jealously guards its influence.

An all too familiar scene was enacted on the campus of Swarthmore College during a meeting on May 4th to discuss demands by student activists for the college to divest itself of its investments in companies that dealt in fossil fuels.

As a speaker was beginning a presentation to show how many millions of dollars such a disinvestment would cost the college, student activists invaded the meeting, seized the microphone and shouted down a student who rose in the audience to object.

Although there were professors and administrators in the room — including the college president — apparently nobody had the guts to put a stop to these storm trooper tactics. Nor is it likely that there will be any punishment of those who put their own desires above the rights of others.

On the contrary, these students went on to demand mandatory campus “teach-ins,” and the administration caved on that demand. Among their other demands are that courses on ethnic studies, and on gender and sexuality, be made a requirement for graduation.

No, this is not Watergate or Iran-Contra. Nor is it like the sex scandal that got Bill Clinton impeached.

The AP, IRS and Benghazi matters represent a scandal not of presidential wrongdoing, but of presidential indolence, indifference and incompetence in discharging the duties of chief executive.

The Barack Obama revealed to us in recent days is something rare in our history: a spectator president, clueless about what is going on in his own household, who reacts to revelations like some stunned bystander.

Consider. Because of a grave national security leak, President Obama’s Department of Justice seized two months of records from 20 telephones used by The Associated Press. An unprecedented seizure.

Yet the president was left completely in the dark. And though he rushed to defend the seizure, he claims he was uninvolved.

While the AP issue does not appear to have legs—we know what was done and why—it has badly damaged this president. For his own Justice Department treated the press, which has an exalted opinion of itself and its role, with the same contempt as the IRS treated the Tea Party.

The episode has damaged a crucial presidential asset. For this Washington press corps had provided this president with a protective coverage of his follies and failings unseen since the White House press of half a century ago covered up the prowlings of JFK.

Officer Daryl Raetz

An illegal alien that left a Phoenix police officer dead has been arrested, according to court paperwork obtained by ABC15?s Christopher Sign.

While Jesus Cabrera Molina has not yet been charged in the death of Officer Daryl Raetz, he is in custody on separate drug charges, the paperwork shows.

Molina was arrested around 1:15 p.m. Sunday during a traffic stop near Thompson Ranch Road and Grand Avenue in Surprise.

The records show Molina was pulled over by an officer who recognized that the 24-year-old’s SUV matched the description of a vehicle involved in the deadly hit-and-run from early Sunday.

According to the court paperwork, Molina’s vehicle was found to have significant damage to the center grill and hood, similar to the vehicle seen fleeing the crash that left Raetz dead near 51st Avenue and Cambridge.

Detectives were also able to match a part left at the hit-and-run scene with “the missing areas” on Molina’s SUV.

The fourth week of protests led by the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP has ended in the arrests of more than 50 people at the state legislature.

The arrest count and number of supporters Monday reached the highest yet for the group’s demonstrations against the policies of the General Assembly, which Republicans took control of after the 2010 elections. Crowds have grown each week, with about 150 people facing charges since the start of demonstrations.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., with other senators in the gang of eight.

Conservative radio talk show hosts have signed a letter opposing the sweeping immigration reform bill in the Senate, bucking tea party favorite Sen. Marco Rubio’s attempts to win their support for the bill, which would combine enhanced border security with a legalization program for the nation’s unauthorized immigrants. Rubio, a member of the “gang of eight” senators who drafted the bill, has become the most prominent conservative spokesman for its passage.

Conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham, who had Rubio on her show twice in the past few months to let him make his pitch for the bill, signed onto the open letter that says the “unsalvageable” measure “would do more harm than good.” The statement, signed by more than 100 conservative groups and leaders, argues that the bill is laden with earmarks and “rewards” lawbreakers by allowing most of the country’s 11 million undocumented immigrants to legalize if they pass a background check and pay fines.

Some influential conservatives have argued that the party needs to embrace reform in order to combat its declining support among Hispanic voters and to fix a broken system, even though the bill is also high on President Barack Obama’s agenda.

The president of the union representing 12,000 U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services adjudications officers and staff has added his name to a letter of law enforcement officials detailing their concerns about the Senate’s bipartisan “Gang of Eight” immigration bill.

In a statement to be released Monday, obtained by The Daily Caller, Kenneth Palinkas, president of the National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council, offers his AFL-CIO affiliated union’s concerns with the current immigration system and contends that the Senate bill does not address those concerns. He further points out that, like the Immigration and Custom Enforcement employees union, the USCIS Council was not consulted in the bill’s drafting and urges lawmakers to oppose the bill.

“We at USCIS are honored to stand with immigration officers and law enforcement officials across the nation,” says Palinkas in the statement.
