Australia: Charities overwhelmed by asylum seeker pleas

Charities say they are being overwhelmed with pleas for help from asylum seekers who are released from detention without enough to live on.

Charities say they are being overwhelmed with pleas for help from asylum seekers who are released from detention without enough to live on.

Record numbers of boat arrivals have blown out the Government’s asylum seeker budget by more than $3.2 billion.

Since August, more than 18,000 asylum seekers have arrived by boat and that means the Government had to find more money in Tuesday’s Federal Budget to process and house them.

To relieve the financial pressure, the Government is releasing more family groups into the community on bridging visas, with 89 per cent on the lowest Centrelink payment to cover rent, food, household items and medicine.

Many of the asylum seekers have been released from detention centres and placed on bridging visas in the community while they wait for their claims to be decided.

Asylum seekers get just over $400 a fortnight to live on and they are not allowed to work or study and their numbers are growing.

They start lining up in search of food and blankets the moment the Salvation Army centre in inner Melbourne opens each weekday morning.

Sheriffs, Law Enforcement Groups Unite Against Senate Immigration Bill

As the Senate prepares to conduct its markup of the “Gang of Eight” immigration bill on Thursday, sheriffs and other law enforcement officials have joined forces to oppose the legislation on the grounds that it, in their opinion, makes the current system of immigration law worse than it would “be a significant barrier to the creation of a safe and lawful system of immigration.”

In a letter that was delivered to every member of Congress in both the House and the Senate on Thursday, National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers chairman Zack Taylor, National Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Council president Chris Crane and at least 30 sheriffs nationwide argued the bill would make America’s broken immigration laws worse off than they already are.

“Driven by mere speculation that S. 744 may be enacted by Congress, illegal border crossings have spiked dramatically,” the law enforcement figures wrote.

“Thousands of unaccompanied children, runaways, and families now attempt to illegally enter the United States in hopes of receiving legalization. This trend will surely continue after enactment as S. 744 provides no commitment of stronger border enforcement for at least five to ten years following the initial legalization phase. Thousands will be victimized or perish as they attempt the treacherous crossing into the United States in hopes of attaining legal status. Cut-off dates established in S. 744 will mean little to those in other countries who are unfamiliar with the 867-page bill.”

In addition to the safety and security risks of the ongoing rush of illegal immigrants on the border, the law enforcement community representatives point out that the Rubio-Schumer bill “provides no guarantee of increased border security.”

“Instead, it relinquishes Congress’ authority to establish border security measures to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which will then develop its own unilateral border security plan,” they wrote.

Immigration Reforms Means A Sweeping Transformation Of U.S. by Mark Steyn

Once America assumes the demographics of California, the Republican Party will be unstoppable.

Most countries in the world have irrelevant numbers of “immigrants.”

In the Americas, for example, only Canada, the United States and the British West Indies have significant non-native populations.

In Mexico, immigrants account for 0.6% of the population, and that generally negligible level prevails all the way down through Latin America until you hit a blip of 1.4% with Chile and 3.8% in Argentina.

There’s an isolated exception in Belize, which, like the English Caribbean, has historical patterns of internal migration within the British Commonwealth — such as one sees, for example, in the number of New Zealand-born residents of Australia.

But profound sweeping demographic transformation through immigration is a phenomenon only of the western world in the modern era, and even there America leads the way.

Over 20% of all the immigrants on the planet are in the U.S. The country’s foreign-born population has doubled in the last two decades to 40 million — officially.

Which is the equivalent of Washington taking a decision to admit every single living Canadian, and throwing in the population of New Zealand as a bonus. Thank goodness they didn’t do that, eh? (Whoops.)

Otherwise, America would have been subject to some hideous, freakish cultural transformation in which there would be hockey franchises in Florida, and Canadian banks on every street corner in New York trumpeting their obnoxious jingoistic slogans (“TD: America’s neighborhood bank”), and creepy little pop stars with weird foreign names like Justin and Carly Rae doing the jobs America’s teen heartthrobs won’t do.

What a vile alien nightmare that would be to wake up in.

Shock as 84 schools have NO white British pupils at all… double the number of five years ago

‘The result of three million immigrants in ten years has created a huge problem for integration of the newcomers. Obviously, if there are no children of the host community in a school, the prospects of integration are close to zero.’

An Education: More than 80 state schools have no white British pupils, compared to 31 schools in 2008, Department for Education figures have revealed

More than 80 state schools in England have no white British pupils, Government figures show.

The number of such schools appears to have more than doubled over the past five years, and the findings will fuel concerns that some parts of the country are becoming increasingly segregated.

The new figures follow research showing that white Britons are retreating from areas dominated by ethnic minorities, to be replaced by immigrants and other ethnic minorities.

Critics said that the previous Labour Government’s ‘open-door’ immigration policy had created ‘huge’ problems for integration, which was now threatening the country’s social cohesion.

The Department for Education figures, revealed in a Freedom of Information request, show that 84 schools recorded last year that no pupils on their rolls were white British. Of those, 67 are primaries, eight secondaries and the remainder special or pupil referral units.

The statistics, derived from the annual school census, found that the highest concentration is in Birmingham, with 22 such schools, followed by Oldham with eight, Leicester with seven and the London borough of Tower Hamlets with six.

The 5-year Nuge Immigration Plan by Ted Nugent

We need a real full-length, undefeatable border fence built. All illegal men in America should be required to work on building the fence, to be completed in one year. We would pay them minimum wage, provide food and shelter, and provide them English and American history classes at night. Everyone wins.

If we get just one thing right regarding the immigration confusion, let’s demand common sense from our professional political clowns who could and would write a 300-page instruction manual on how to tie your shoes.

Everything worthwhile comes from maximum effort. All legal immigrants who are willing to bust their hump and prove they want to be a glowing, positive asset to America, like always, are welcome. Everyone else should be forced to vamoose back to Mexico, especially the crazy people who want America to become as rotten as the place they escaped. We don’t need any more bloodsuckers.

In America, nothing worth having comes easy or cheap. We should erect tough hurdles and tests in front of all immigrants to deter those not willing to try hard. Those who are willing to apply Herculean effort to become a productive American should have a welcome mat put out in front of them, losers not so much. We already have way more than we can handle.

The Nuge Immigration Plan (NIP) takes five years for even illegal immigrants to become Americans. Until then, they should be treated like indentured servants, meaning that they have to earn their citizenship.

The NIP is not an amnesty program. Amnesty is for left-wing mollycoddlers, losers, bureaucrats and hippies. Occupy that.

L.A. County officials worried about costs of immigration overhaul

With an estimated 1.1 million people in L.A. County illegally, officials fear that the county will get stuck with many costs for those who apply for citizenship.

A man holds an American flag at Olvera Street, where May Day marchers ended their annual walk through downtown this year.

Few regions will absorb the impact of future immigration reforms more than Los Angeles County, home to an estimated 1.1 million people in the country illegally, one-tenth of the nation’s total.

As the Senate Judiciary Committee began debating the bipartisan immigration bill last week, county officials voiced concerns that local taxpayers will be “left holding the bag” to pay for the brunt of healthcare and other services for multitudes of immigrants who apply for citizenship.

Local and state officials believe the overhaul bill will encourage those in the country illegally to come out of the shadows and turn to local services during the proposed 13-year-long pathway to citizenship.

“The one thing that’s really clear as day is that the federal government is going to be protecting itself against costs, and we’re going to be left holding the bag,” said Mark Tajima, an analyst with the county’s chief administrative office.

In Washington last week for the start of the debate, county officials, including Supervisors Don Knabe and Zev Yaroslavsky, warned of a “major cost shift” to state and local governments from the proposed legislation and pressed Congress to provide federal aid to help cover future costs.
