Event: Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2016

March 2-5, 2016, Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, 201 Waterfront St, National Harbor, MD 20745. Featured speakers include Carly Fiorina, Dr. Gina Loudon and Mark Levin.

ACU founded and hosts the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the birthplace of modern conservatism. CPAC combines ideas with action to leverage the strength of thousands of grass-roots activists to break through the resistance of Washington’s powerful elites.

The four-day conference begins with Activism Boot Camp, an unparalleled initiative that brings together the finest conservative organizations involved in activism training and campaign management. The remaining three days of the conference unite the political leaders of the conservative movement with the people who make up the movement. As President Ronald Reagan said in 1985, “CPAC is the opportunity to dance with the one who brung ya.”

The powerful combination of knowledge and activism is critical for the advancement of conservatism. Under its new leadership team, ACU has launched CPAC 365, a nationwide effort to do the work of CPAC year round. This initiative will ensure the growth and continued success of the grassroots conservative movement by keeping it educated, equipped and motivated for principled and effective action.

‘Lonesome Dove’ cast reunion set for March in Fort Worth

” ‘Lonesome Dove’ is a true American experience, and people have identified with it for decades because they believe they themselves have come from characters like Gus and (Woodrow) Call,” said Bill Wittliff, the screenwriter and co-executive producer of the miniseries. “Qualities like bravery, friendship and humor matter to us, and we like to see those qualities in other people.”

Gus and Call will be hitting the trail together again in March 2016 when the Wittliff Collections holds a reunion for the stars of the beloved TV miniseries “Lonesome Dove” at River Ranch in the Fort Worth Stockyards.

Those who’ll be joining the reunion include Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Diane Lane, Anjelica Huston, Ricky Schroder and Glenne Headly. The event will be the centerpiece of a months-long celebration called the “Lonesome Dove Trail,” with live musical performances, silent and live auctions, and a tribute to author Larry McMurtry.

The events kick off Jan. 15, with museum exhibitions, a miniseries screening, panel discussions and a symposium at various locations around Fort Worth, with one venue in Albany, Texas. The exhibitions will feature costumes, props, photographs and other items on loan from the “Lonesome Dove” production archive, which is at the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University in San Marcos.

The cast reunion will be a ticketed event, with proceeds going to the Wittliff Collections, providing funds for future acquisitions. Tables and VIP sponsorships are available.

Event: Madison Rising to Rock ’13 Hours’ Premiere (Video)

Patriotic rock will ring in the premiere of “13 Hours,” Michael Bay’s take on the Benghazi terrorist attacks.

Madison Rising will take the stage before the film’s screening, to be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas Jan. 12. Tickets are free.

The patriotic band is known for their rock ballad version of “The Star Spangled Banner” and their tireless efforts to entertain military veterans. Conservative figures like Sarah Palin have publicly thanked them for their dedication.

“13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” marks a recent, and welcome, Hollywood trend: movies paying respect to military stories. For years, filmmakers too often avoided the rich and detailed veteran’s experience. Instead, they used soldiers as cinematic pawns to push their own political agendas. Naturally, Americans ignored these movies again and again.

Recent films like 2013’s “Lone Survivor” and 2014’s “American Sniper” showed Hollywood was ready to listen to audiences. That change paid off. Both film were highly profitable, with the latter snatching up significant awards attention, too. Neither movie paid much mind to politics. They presented their military stories with respect and honesty.

By all accounts, Bay’s “13 Hours” charts a similar course. The film opens nationwide Jan. 15, and focuses on the events of Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012.

Event: Yellow Card Project

With the Yellow Card Project, we will drive the attention of our nation and our lawmakers toward the subjects that truly matter to us all.

The boisterous sea of liberty is never without a wave. – Thomas Jefferson

The mainstream media has long viewed the Tea Party movement as an “opposition” movement; it was organized in response to President Obama’s trillion-dollar “Stimulus” plan and went on to oppose bailouts, the swelling national debt, the Affordable Care Act, executive amnesty and a host of other issues.

We’ve been playing defense, but we can do better. After all, we all stand for a positive attitude and a bold agenda for the future that seeks to enhance personal and economic freedom, and make a debt-free future a reality.

With the Yellow Card Project, we will drive the attention of our nation and our lawmakers toward the subjects that truly matter to us all.

In the 2016 election cycle, we’ll use Yellow Card to force all candidates for federal office to confront issues that some of them would prefer not to address. Through the initiatives and events we’ll roll out as part of the Yellow Card Project, we’ll control the subject of our nation’s political conversation – this is the key to securing a future that upholds the conservative values that will help America flourish.

The Yellow Cards are a set of core subjects, questions which the candidates need to answer, and which the American public needs to think about. We didn’t just make these questions up ourselves; we talked to our allies, both in the Tea Party movement and outside; we reached out to Tea Party Patriots all over the country, from grassroots group leaders and allies on Capitol Hill to our day-to-day volunteers and small-dollar donors.

Event: Grand Opening – John Wayne Birthplace Museum, May 22-25, 2015

Since 1982 the John Wayne Birthplace has drawn over a million visitors to see the small house where John Wayne’s life began. Our new John Wayne Birthplace Museum will enhance that visitor experience, with 6,100 square feet including a theater, gift shop, and gallery display area with artifacts and interactive exhibits documenting his life and career. This new facility will provide an exciting experience for the whole family.

The John Wayne Birthplace is thrilled to announce that our musical headliner for our John Wayne Birthplace Museum Benefit Dinner will be country music legend Marty Stuart. Marty is a life-long John Wayne fan and an early supporter of our museum and says he’s looking forward to helping us ”wave the flag” at this historic event.

Years from now when they’re talking about the great personalities in country music—Jimmie Rogers, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Bill Monroe—they’ll include Marty Stuart. He’ll be among those personalities because he’s never been afraid to follow his vision to stretch the boundaries of country music. When country strays too far from its heartbeat, he’s been there to snap it back.

Imagine co-starring in a movie in which John Wayne plays your father and Maureen O’Hara plays your mother. That distinction belongs to our special guest Christopher Mitchum who played Michael McCandles alongside Wayne in Big Jake (1971). In his 50 year film career, Mr. Mitchum has acted in some 60 films including appearing with Wayne in Chisum and Rio Lobo. The son of legendary film star Robert Mitchum (who starred with Wayne in El Dorado) Chris Mitchum is also a writer, businessman, Pro-Celebrity Rodeo competitor and citizen politician. Please join us in welcoming Chris to both the Grand Opening ceremonies at the John Wayne Birthplace Museum and the Benefit Dinner later that evening.
