The British police have been criticised for their policy of recording non-criminal comments and jokes as being ‘hate incidents’, based purely on the perception of anybody who claims to have been offended. Although this case was about what is sometimes called ‘transphobia’, the implications are much wider and will, it is hoped, include supposed racism. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Harry Miller.
