26-year-old “Dreamer” will perform outreach to Latino community.
In an apparent effort to court Hispanic voters, Hillary Clinton has hired an illegal immigrant as a staffer for her 2016 presidential campaign.
The new employee, Lorella Praeli, is a “Dreamer,” an immigrant who was brought to America illegally as a child and is now seeking legal status. As a result of President Obama’s 2012 executive order granting amnesty to such immigrants by halting their deportation and granting them work permits, the Clinton campaign is not breaking the law by employing her.
As Stephen Dinan explains in the Washington Times, Praeli “has tentative legal status and a work permit, so it is legal to hire her — but she is still not in lawful presence.”
Praeli, who is 26 years old, was previously employed as the advocacy and policy director for United We Dream, an organization that advocates on behalf of young immigrants. She played a role in the organization’s campaign to pressure President Barack Obama to grant amnesty to the Dreamers. Her new role for the Clinton campaign will consist of outreach to the Latino community.
