Eric Holder Contempt Resolution Over Operation Fast And Furious Passes House (Video)

The criminal contempt charge refers the dispute to a U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, who was appointed by Obama and who serves under Holder, meaning he’s not likely to seek action.

House Republicans voted Thursday to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, an issue that has become so politicized that nearly all Democrats walked out during the vote.

The 255-to-67 vote marks the first time in history that a U.S. attorney general has been held in contempt of Congress. Nearly all Republicans voted to charge Holder with criminal contempt, along with 17 Democrats. The House also voted 258 to 95 on a civil contempt resolution.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who has led the 18-month investigation into Holder’s role in the Justice Department’s botched Fast and Furious operation, said after the vote that his long quest for documents tied to the operation has been “fair and fact-based,” despite Democrats, the Justice Department and the White House regularly slamming him for being on a political witch hunt. Issa has been pressing Holder for documents, without any preconditions, that could shed light on why the administration initially denied that a risky “gun-walking” investigative tactic was used in the operation that allowed hundreds of guns to be smuggled from Arizona to Mexico.

“Today, a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for his continued refusal to produce relevant documents in the investigation of Operation Fast and Furious,” Issa said after the vote. “This was not the outcome I had sought and it could have been avoided had Attorney General Holder actually produced the subpoenaed documents he said he could provide.”

USDA suggests food stamp parties, games to increase participation

The agency’s most recent outreach effort targets California, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio and the New York metro area with radio ads. The ads have been running since March and are scheduled to continue through the end of June — at a cost of $2.5 million — $3 million.

While spending on the food stamp program has increased 100 percent under President Barack Obama, the government continues to push more Americans to enroll in the welfare program.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has embraced entire promotional campaigns designed to encourage eligible Americans to participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamps.

A pamphlet currently posted at the USDA website encourages local SNAP offices to throw parties as one way to get potentially eligible seniors to enroll in the program.

“Throw a Great Party. Host social events where people mix and mingle,” the agency advises. “Make it fun by having activities, games, food, and entertainment, and provide information about SNAP. Putting SNAP information in a game format like BINGO, crossword puzzles, or even a ‘true/false’ quiz is fun and helps get your message across in a memorable way.”

The essence of Progressive though is, “Yes it works in PRACTICE… but will it work in THEORY?” Bill shows why Obamacare doesn’t even work in theory.

Liberal Elitism Dumbing Down America? (Video)

America-Lite shows “how we lost control of our own culture,” and how the “sullen, seething contempt for Western culture” that characterizes many educators is producing generations of ignorant citizens (dubbed “Airheads” by Gelernter) who accept liberal ideology because it is all they’ve ever known.

David Gelernter

Prolific author David Gelernter has covered subjects ranging from technology to Judaism, but America-Lite: How Imperial Academia Dismantled Our Culture (and Ushered In the Obamacrats) is his first unabashedly political book.

Gelernter opposes Barack Obama primarily because Obama is one of the “Airheads” produced by the U.S. educational system.

“Obama is an Airhead and no ordinary ideologue,” writes Gelernter in America-Lite, “but he is certainly a left-liberal; he repeats the doctrine he learned from left-liberal intellectuals.”

Gelernter, a professor of computer science at Yale, said his teaching experience has contributed enormously to his pessimistic assessment of American culture. “Every year I see a new class of smart kids, motivated kids, who are just ignorant,” said Gelernter.

“We educators have a responsibility,” said Gelernter, “and we’re failing.”

Gelernter called out conservatives, saying Republicans are focusing on secondary issues and avoiding the “deeper problems” in American culture.

The Case for Conservative Entertainment

We spend our time talking politics — as we should, but we ignore the powerful tide of drama and comedy, packaged on network television, and lavishly dished out in theaters. While we’re out organizing tea parties, secular liberals are defining the culture by telling powerfully entertaining stories that slip in just enough of their message to make that image of heroic individualism seem, well, silly.

By James Riley

Not talk. Not News. Good old fashioned STORY.

At the turn of the 20th century, public school students in New Hampshire learned about the heroic adventures of a man named John Stark, who rose to become a hero in the Revolutionary War. Stark was legendary in every sense of the term, and so were the stories public school students learned about him. He was compassionate, willing to sacrifice himself for his brothers. He was brave, so brave he took a stick to the first brave he faced running down a gauntlet of 40 Huron braves as a captive. He was a strategic warrior, taking his troops to guard the north side of Breed’s Hill, without waiting for orders. He was an individualist, willing even to defy the Continental Congress at one point. He was a poet. At one heated moment, during a pitched battle, he was heard to have said “we will take that hill tonight or Molly Stark will be a widow tomorrow.”

These weren’t dialogues on talk radio or political fund raising events or conservative panels on Fox News. They were stories. Stories. Heroic, legendary, entertaining stories of triumph. It was the stuff of America — the very fabric of our souls, the way we were once woven.

By and large, conservatives don’t trust story anymore.

At Courage, New Hampshire, we want to tell an exciting story. To be certain, it’s full of conflict, villainy, romance, and political intrigue, but it’s also about a bold fight against corruption and tyranny. It doesn’t make any mistakes about who was right, and who was wrong, in those crucial years leading to 1775. It also tells a story about a people who held together because they had a common culture and a common faith in the Almighty.

Is that worth $1.95 of your time?

Four more banks fingered in interest-rate investigation

“Banks were clearly acting in concert,” said Andrew Tyrie, a British lawmaker, who is also chairman of the influential Treasury Committee in the House of Commons. “I fear it’s not going to be the end of the story, that we are going to find that other banks have been involved.”

Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit.

Four more global banks are being investigated for the alleged financial market manipulation that led to fines of $453 million against Barclays Bank, British Treasury chief George Osborne said Thursday, causing stocks in those groups to plummet.

Osborne said Citigroup in the U.S., Switzerland’s UBS, and Britain’s HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland were also being probed for allegedly providing false figures on key interest rates upon which mortgages and consumer loans are priced.

On Wednesday, U.S and British regulators imposed the fines on Barclays for manipulating the interest rate — the London interbank offered rate (LIBOR) — to its advantage between 2005 and 2009.

The banks’ share price fell sharply as investors priced in new hefty fines. By midday in London, Barclays shares had fallen 16%, RBS nearly 13%, HSBC 4% and Lloyds Banking Group 7%. In premarket trading in New York, Citigroup shares were down 1.9%.

The Obama Administration is Training Offshore Foreign Workers to Take your Job

The fact they must train foreigners also shows offshore outsourcing has nothing to do about skills and everything to do with slave wages. There are plenty of Americans, right now, losing homes, who cannot make rent, who know how to program in Java! Add in the number of Americans who would love to be educated and trained in I.T. and software development, the numbers are assuredly above 500,000.

If this doesn’t get your blood boiling then you’re dead. The Obama administration is spending $36 million dollars to train foreign workers in foreign countries for skills needed to offshore outsource your job. I’m not making this up. $36 million dollars to educate foreign workers, when the U.S. unemployment rate is at crisis levels. Our government is paying for education, classes and training so foreigners can get the skills needed to do American jobs.

Despite President Obama’s pledge to retain more hi-tech jobs in the U.S., a federal agency run by a hand-picked Obama appointee has launched a $36 million program to train workers, including 3,000 specialists in IT and related functions, in South Asia.

Following their training, the tech workers will be placed with outsourcing vendors in the region that provide offshore IT and business services to American companies looking to take advantage of the Asian subcontinent’s low labor costs.

Under director Rajiv Shah, the United States Agency for International Development will partner with private outsourcers in Sri Lanka to teach workers there advanced IT skills like Enterprise Java (Java EE) programming, as well as skills in business process outsourcing and call center support. USAID will also help the trainees brush up on their English language proficiency.

USAID is contributing about $10 million to the effort, while its private partners are investing roughly $26 million.

“To help fill workforce gaps in BPO and IT, USAID is teaming up with leading BPO and IT/English language training companies to establish professional IT and English skills development training centers,” the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka, said in a statement posted Friday on its Web site.

1965 Immigration Law Changed Face of America

“Over time, in a process critics call “chain migration,” entire families have re-established themselves in the United States. Historian Otis Graham thinks the policy has been a terrible mistake. “Family reunification puts the decision of who comes to America in the hands of foreigners,” Graham says. “Those decisions are out of the hand of the Congress — they just set up a formula and its kinship. Frankly, it could be called nepotism.

President Lyndon B. Johnson (center) signs the sweeping immigration bill of 1965 into law at a ceremony on Liberty Island, Oct. 4, 1965. Sen. Edward Kennedy and his brother, Sen. Robert Kennedy, are seen at right.

“This bill that we will sign today is not a revolutionary bill. It does not affect the lives of millions,” Johnson said at the signing ceremony. “It will not reshape the structure of our daily lives or add importantly to either our wealth or our power.”

Looking back, Johnson’s statement is remarkable because it proved so wrong. Why? Sociologist Klineberg says the government’s newfound sense of egalitarianism only went so far. The central purpose of the new immigration law was to reunite families.

Klineberg notes that in debating an overhaul of immigration policy in the 1960s, many in Congress had argued that little would change because the measure gave preference to relatives of immigrants already in America. Another provision gave preference to professionals with skills in short supply in the United States.

“Congress was saying in its debates, ‘We need to open the door for some more British doctors, some more German engineers,'” Klineberg says. “It never occurred to anyone, literally, that there were going to be African doctors, Indian engineers, Chinese computer programmers who’d be able, for the first time in the 20th century, to immigrate to America.”

Al Qaeda terror trained Britons pose ‘significant threat’ warns MI5

More and more Britons are heading out to the Middle East for terrorist training in groundwork for attacks in the wake of the Arab Spring, the head of MI5 has said.

Director-general of the Security Service, Jonathan Evans, advised that parts of the Arab world were becoming a more liberal and tolerant environment for al-Qaeda and Britons were going there to “seek training and opportunities for militant activity”.

Some will return to the mainland and pose a significant threat and the state of affairs“could get worse as events unfold”, he said.

It is thought that up to 200 ‘so called’British residents and nationals are presently in the Arab world and either mixed up in training camps, being radicalised or actively functional within the terror groups.

In an uncommon public speech only weeks before the Olympic Games begin in London, Mr Evans said the Arab world was in “radical transition”.

“Today parts of the Arab world have once more become a permissive environment for al-Qaeda,”he said.“A small number of British would be jihadis are also making their way to Arab countries to seek training and opportunities for militant activity, as they do in Somalia and Yemen.

“Some will return to the UK and pose a threat here.“This is a new and worrying development and could get worse as events unfold.
