“We know that within the next year motion pictures will once again come under congressional fire because of our Communists.” John Wayne

Tri-City Herald – May 17, 1950

The total number of “actual, hard-bitten revolutionary, subversive Communists in Hollywood is not much above 100,” says the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals.

The Alliance, headed by actor John Wayne, said:

“We know that within the next year motion pictures will once again come under congressional fire because of our Communists. Louis Budenz, who knows, has offered to give the Senate the names of the Communists in our community. we know pretty well ourselves who they are, and our setimate is that the total number is not much above 100. 100 our of 30,000 workers.”

The Alliance said it has fought openly against Communism for seven years, but has received little support from top executives. It asserted that some executives had opposed the Alliance and even tried to destroy it.
